happy belated…

Happy Blog-iversary Maine to Montreal! It has been over a year since I started this blog, a year on January 4th to be exact. I began Maine to Montreal as a creative outlet and a place to share all the things that inspire me day to day. It has been quite a journey–along with a reader response that was completely unexpected. I wanted to thank you all for following Maine to Montreal and I hope you continue to do so. I love hearing from you! Here are some of my favorite moments of 2012…

home with MM

Hello long lost friends! I apologize for my disappearance, but after two weeks of traveling for work and life events I am finally home. Man it feels good, besides the fact that my house is still in utter disarray. Actually, it looks shockingly similar to my last post with the addition of a marble countertop–seriously struggling over here. In true Heidi fashion I’ve decided for everything in my life to all happen at the exact same time. I swear even if I plan accordingly, somehow, someway it always works out this way. When it rains it pours. Words to live by.

Apart from that I have so, so much to share with you! A wedding, a weekend away and lots of fun new purchases. I’ll start with an unexpected gift from Louis that I found waiting for me when I returned home…a beautiful Marisa Minicucci fur piece that doubles as an infinity scarf. In love–and just in time for Fall. It’s almost too beautiful to wear, but I’m sure I’ll find a way!

dream outfit

{Leather clutch//Reed Krakoff, Painted swarovski crystal cuff//Tom Binns, Chunky open-knit sweater//ACNE, Cropped boyfriend-fit jeans//MARNI, Geometric printed heels//Nicholas Kirkwood}

There’s just something about boyfriend jeans paired with a chunky sweater and high heels that I just can’t get enough of. Call me lazy, but I’m all about comfort chic. It’s an effortless look that works well for any occasion and for anyone. Plus it’s an ideal summer to fall transition outfit–because I need to face it. Fall is happening….and soon.

shoeday tuesday

It’s raining buckets here in Montréal today. Literal buckets. Other than the minor/serious flood that happening in my backyard, the only thing I’ve got on my mind today are booties. I agree, that sentence sounded weird. I mean the booties that you wear on your feet. If you’re addicted to boots like I am, the bootie now allows you to wear boots all year long! These babies still give you some ankle breeze so your feet don’t feel like they’re about to fall off due to heat–plus they are a perfect shoe to transition you seamlessly into Fall. Let’s observe…

{Studded leather ankle boot//Chloé}

{Suede ankle boot//Alexander McQueen}

{Swarovski crystal-embellished suede ankle boot//Giuseppe Zanotti}

red, white + blue

We’re nearing one of my favorite holidays–not to mention the only holiday that I think it’s appropriate to dress in the coordinating colors. There’s nothing better than a good ol’ american flag t-shirt. This year I’ll be north of the US, having my own personal celebration tomorrow. Either way, I’ll be wearing something red, white and/or blue. Here are my picks for the 4th: OGJM Hyacinth Necklace from JCrew, Sequined linen bomber jacket from JCrew (check it out in action here), Appliqued cotton clutch from Totem Salvaged, Jenny 150 tartan slingbacks from Christian Louboutin, Biennial Hobo from JCrew

one, two, three, four, five

My birthday ended up being everything I had hoped for–I was able to spend time with my family, go out for a fancy dinner, dress up and relax. Here are five reasons why I had the best day ever:

1. a bright pink manicure [a coordinating wallet is not obligatory, although it certainly helps]

2. salmon tartare at O’Thym

3. flowers!

4. My new nikon–thanks to Louis

5. bubbly!

denim days of summer

Ahhh, summertime. It’s what we wait all year long for and it’s officially here. For me summer is all about breezy dresses, popsicles, the perfect sandal, dinning al fresco and denim. Denim is always in style and will be forever classic. There’s nothing that completes an outfit more than a killer pair of jeans or a tissue-weight chambray shirt. Honestly, if I could live the rest of my life in denim on denim I would-except now I live in Canada and we all know a thing or two about a Canadian tuxedo…I’ll have to keep it to a minimum. See, even the Man Repeller loves denim. It’s contagious. Here’s what I’m eyeing around the web this week: 1 – 2 – 3
