winter whites

I feel like I have been living in a snow globe this week and the weather forecast isn’t predicting anything different anytime soon. This has turned into copious amounts of indoor time–protesting against the cold. Since all I am seeing in white it was my source of inspiration for this outfit. I’m all about white after Labor Day–in moderation of course. I also came across my favorite pair of vintage earrings. I wore these for my wedding and would do so every day if I could get away with it. In other news, we are renovating our bathroom {yes!}. Before+after pictures soon!

oatmeal 101

Oatmeal is something I am very serious about–passionate you might say. I adore it and I can without-a-doubt say that my last year in college I had 365 bowls of oatmeal in one year. Too much? Never. I’m telling you this stuff is the only thing that can hold me over from 7am-1pm and its health benefits are endless. My interest first began about three years ago when I was introduced to food blogs. Kath of Kath Eats Real Food is the reason for my oatmeal addiction. I think I like oatmeal for the same reasons I like tacos–toppings. Raisins, craisins, coconut, chocolate chips, flaxseed, chia seeds, peanut butter, almond butter, raspberry jelly, sliced almonds, strawberries, honey, brown sugar, maple syrup….I could keep going. It makes breakfast fun and it’s always something new, but the essential ingredient to the best oatmeal in the world is the frozen banana.

Cooking Instructions (makes 1 bowl)

1/2 cup of raw oats

1/2 peeled frozen banana–sliced*

1/2 cup of milk (milk+water ratios can be adjusted to your taste, I prefer more milk to water)

1/4 water

pinch of salt

*Peel bananas before feezing them–they will not brown. Place in a ziploc bag and they can be stored for months.

Add all of your ingredients into a small pot and set your stove top to medium high. Once the water starts to steam and small bubbles appear stir vigorously (about 1-2 minutes) until all the liquid is absorbed into the oats. Serve and add toppings! The banana makes for a creamy and slightly sweet bowl of oatmeal. I find that frozen bananas dissolve and blend better than a regular banana, but both methods can be used.

Now repeat…365 times.

nuit blanche

This weekend was all about light here in Montréal. It was the 9th annual Nuit Blanche–an outdoor light festival that includes food vendors, free concerts and underground metro art that goes all through the night. The words free, food and outdoor festival are usually a recipe for success and it definitely was. Despite the cold temperatures Saturday night, the city was packed. Montréal has an amazing underground network so it was easy to sneak inside and warm up before heading back out again. Check out the website here for all details. These are a few of the photographs I shot this weekend during our all night adventure:

wants of the week

This time I decided to switch it up a bit select my wants from the street style photographs of London Fashion Week. Lately, I have been seeing such beautiful accessories that I am totally in love with–check out these shoes. Fabulous.

I hope that you all have a wonderful weekend!

all aboard

I received something very special in the mail yesterday–it’s a boat! Not just any kind of boat, a save-the-wedding-date kind of boat. These invites are printed on a thick ivory card stock and beautifully letter-pressed with hints of marigold + a smoky charcoal grey. I have already gushed about how I much I adore all things {wedding} and invites and save-the-dates are high on the list.

This invite belongs to my brother and his fiancée who will be married on Chebeague Island this September. I am so incredibly excited for their wedding and I have my fingers crossed for perfect weather the whole weekend–BUT if the weather does turn bad they can always wear these.♥

Love you guys–Can’t wait!

storytelling with food

I had some excellent food this weekend, I mean really excellent. Homemade pizzas, lasagna, tiramisu–the list goes on. Today I’m going to let the food do the talking and let everyone get hungry.

just a chalet away…

Considered a camp in Maine, a cabin for the rest of New England and a chalet for Quebec–in any case, I was at one of these this weekend

We were located just a few hours outside of Montreal between Mont Blanc and Mont Tremblant, relaxing and enjoying winter the only way possible: skiing, drinking and an outside jacuzzi. Usually in that order, but the sole exception is that drinking and jacuzzi-ing can be done simultaneously [faire attention]. It was so great to have so many friends all in once place cooking and eating together, a regular Brady Bunch. Naturally, I forgot my real camera so I worked with my iphone for the weekend–more food details to come…

Thanks M+J for a perfect weekend away!

molasses spice cookies

This batch of cookies was super easy to make and I highly recommend this recipe–the perfect amount of chewy to crunchy ratio. I will let you in on a few little secrets–I did not follow this recipe exactly. I only used half the amount of butter and to replace the fat I added a tbsp of olive oil. I also added an additional 1/4 tsp of ginger and I did not use any salt since I used salted butter.

I also encourage you to cook these one sheet at the time because the tops of the cookies will not “crack” properly if two sheets are together. Enjoy!

wants of the week

Tonight I’m heading to the slopes! We made a quick trip to the grocery store last night to pick up last minute breakfast staples. We’re the breakfast cooks this weekend=cheesy eggs and buttered toast. As excited as I am to go skiing, I’m debatably more excited for après-ski. Have a wonderful weekend!

happenings

This week has been full of surprises: a visit from my parents, flowers, delicious dinners and an unwanted French exam. I am looking forward to this coming weekend because we are finally going skiing! I come from a big ski family (understatement of the century) and it seems crazy that I’m going for my first time so late in the season. We are driving an hour outside of Montreal with friends and our only plan is to ski, eat and drink some excellent wine. I’ll be sure to snap some photos of our adventures–until then…

{this one made me laugh–can you spot the spelling error?}

{a new addition–cross your fingers that I this one sticks around for awhile. I have a nack for killing orchids the second they enter my house}

{a forgotten candy that will never be forgotten again}

{hoping packing and I can become best friends in the next 24 hours–hey, maybe then my bag will pack itself?}
